Risk assessment index: Frailty assessment tool for estimation of duration of inpatient hospice care

Abstract

This study was designed to assess the Risk Analysis Index scores for veterans admitted to an inpatient VA hospice unit during calendar year 2019. Using this frailty evaluation, we were hoping to predict length of stay for improved staffing and utilization of beds. Seventy percent of the veterans admitted had scores of 40-70 and survival of less than 6 weeks.
