Abstract
In this study, we address the main cardiovascular risks associated with activities firefighters' work, with the presentation of ways of measuring the components health-related physical fitness, which can serve as a screening tool in the identification of professionals more prone to certain comorbidities. Initially, the activities of firefighters and their cardiovascular overload are briefly described related to fire fighting. Then, the factors of health risks that have been the target of research in this occupational group. Posteriorly, We emphasize the importance of good physical fitness to minimize the risk of cardiovascular events and, finally, we discussed the importance of the physical fitness test as a way assessment of physical fitness components. In addition, evidence is presented the effectiveness of the partnership established with the Public University, as well as the of public health promotion policies aimed at reducing harm caused in this working class that aims to save lives.
