Abstract
<h3>The Cerebrospinal Fluid in Different Stages of Syphilis</h3> Drs. O. Lange and H. Sam Mindlin, of the Department of Neurology of the Faculty of Medicine of São Paulo, recently published an article on the changes in the cerebrospinal fluid in the different stages of syphilis. They believe that all cases of syphilis may be considered as potential cases of neurosyphilis. The success of the treatment of neurosyphilis depends on how early in the disease the treatment is given. Although the primary localization of Spirochaeta pallida in the nervous system is a subject still under discussion, it seems that the spirochetes invade simultaneously the meninges and the surrounding nervous tissues. The spinal puncture, made at the atloido-occipital point in syphilitic patients, is a harmless procedure superior to lumbar puncture, because patients do not present symptoms of intolerance to it as they do when lumbar puncture is made.
