Abstract

A review of literature indicates that there are many papers on the ringworm in monkeys. In most cases, the etiological fungus has been Microsporum canis or other species of the genus Microsporum. Trichophyton mentagrophytes or any other species of Trichophyton has rarely been incriminated for simian ringworm. The present paper deals with clinical and mycological findings on ringworm obtained from a captive chimpanzee. The etiological fungus was proved to be T. simii, which is a conidial state of Arthroderma simii Stockdale, Mackenize & Austwick, 1965.
