Abstract
A pyranose ring was cleaved with the assistance of an acetylene-cobalt complex. The open-chain cation intermediate was trapped by five different nucleophiles to produce the corresponding acyclic cobalt complexes which were subsequently decomplexed into acetylenic derivatives by oxidation.
