Abstract

AbstractIn this paper, a direct 3D finite‐difference time‐domain (FDTD) approach is implemented to investigate the electromagnetic behavior of arbitrary conformal microstrip filters and spiral inductors. To this end, the frequency dependence of the scattering‐matrix parameters of these microstrip circuit configurations has been studied in depth. The proposed model approaches the curved regions of the studied structures using a staircase discretization scheme. The obtained numerical results have been validated by comparisons with measured results in the literature, which considered extreme cases where the considered structures are planar. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
