Abstract

This paper reports the Rietveld analysis for the crystal structure of 4SrO·7Al 2O 3 doped with Eu 2+. The result shows that there are two sites of Sr 2+ that can be substituted by Eu 2+ ions to form two emission centers at 400 and 490 nm, respectively. The emission of Eu 2+ at 400 nm is quenched when the concentration is over 0.012 due to energy transferring between the two sites of Eu 2+ ions. The value of the critical transfer distance is calculated as 20.4 Å. When doped with Dy 3+, with Eu 2+ concentration increase, the initial luminescent intensity and its duration first increase and then decrease gradually when the Eu 2+ concentration is over 0.012.
