Abstract

A surgical procedure designed to increase the intraoral size of the residual ridge has been described. The procedure entails repositioning of the buccal mucosa onto the lingual surface of the residual ridge and mandibular base, and replacing the buccal tissue with a split skin graft. Approximately 10 days following surgery, prosthetic procedures are begun. Although the surgical technique is extensive, patient response to the total procedure is good.
