Abstract

Abstract Rick Wallach, founder of the Cormac McCarthy Society, first discovered the author in 1992, when he picked up a copy of Blood Meridian in Adelaide, Australia, and read it on an overnight train to Alice Springs. That began Wallach's deep engagement with McCarthy's work, which he would enthusiastically press upon friends and unsuspecting strangers. Here, Peter Jospyh tells the story of that auspicious meeting, and what happened to that original “Australian railroad copy” of Blood Meridian in its later years.
