Abstract

The books of Joshua −2 Kings represent the ‘Deuteronomic history’, beginning with Joshua’s call from God to continue the work of the now dead Moses, and leading Israel into battle to claim the promised land of Canaan. In the Hebrew Canon, Joshua Judges, Samuel and Kings are the Former Prophets, rather than Histories, and this has important implications for our reading of those texts.
