Abstract

Pegler (1977) published a preliminary account of the species of Agaricales of East Africa. In that publication, four species of Rhodocybe were described with two of those taxa being presented as new, i.e. Rhodocybe fibulata Pegler and R. pleurogena Pegler. Baroni (1981) and Baroni & Halling (1992) agreed with Pegler that these were in fact good species of Rhodocybe after having studied the type collections. Scanning electron micrographs of the basidiospores of these two taxa are included here (Fig. 1A C). These images clearly show the typical basidiospore morphology of Rhodocybe species. An examination of all the collections of Rhodocybe listed from East Africa by Pegler (1977) revealed at least one further new taxon. That taxon is described and named after Prof. Pegler in honour of his numerous contributions to the ongoing studies of worldwide agaric biodiversity. The presence in Africa of Rhodocybe pseudonitellina Dennis, a neotropical species, is also established.
