Osler himself is quoted as having remarked that when an arthritic patient walked into his consultation room, he always had a strong inclination to jump out the window. Most of the research work on arthritis has been spasmodic or accidental, and until recent times few practitioners have made a special study of the disease.It is unfortunate that such a common malady should have received this neglect.
