Abstract

Several English-language texts on arthritic disorders, published in the United States and abroad, are available to physicians interested in or specializing in rheumatology. The present contribution, a major effort consisting of more than 1,000 pages and hundreds of illustrations and tables, was written largely by the editor (20 of 50 sections) with the aid of 28 contributing authorities. Due in part to its orientation and format— practical problem-oriented approach— this book complements and extends other efforts in this field and therefore should be a welcome addition to the clinician's library. As with any multiauthored text, some variation in clarity of writing, accuracy, and depth of information presented is noted. Particularly rewarding to me were sections 4 through 10, each dealing with a specific peripheral joint or musculoskeletal region.
