Abstract

AbstractLight scattering relaxation in thin strained polyethylene films has been determined. Results for swollen and unswollen films are presented. Concurrent studies of stress relaxation indicate that the mechanism by which relaxation takes place is associated with changes in the average fluctuation in refractive index of the material. The ratio of the change in the fluctuation in refractive index to stress appears to be independent of time.
