Abstract

Abstract Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) of the prostate in adults is a rare but highly malignant tumor and often metastatic at diagnosis. RMS of the prostate in adults has been reported in isolated case reports in the literature. Timely diagnosis and multimodal treatment give the best survival chance to the patient. The varied presentation of RMS of the prostate in adults mimicking multiple other pathologies of the prostate and lack of pathognomic radiological findings makes its diagnosis difficult and delays in treatment. Transrectal biopsy of the prostate with immunohistochemistry panel at histopathological examination confirms the diagnosis. A 27-year-old man diagnosed as prostatic abscess and treated with antibiotics was referred to our center. Adequate suspicion of malignancy with proper evaluation and biopsy leads to correct diagnosis of RMS of the prostate. Multimodality treatment was initiated as the disease was not metastatic at diagnosis.
