Abstract

Eighty-four Rh-negative mothers, not previously immunized, were studied for the occurrence of anti-RH post partum and for detectable fetal-maternal hemorrhage at delivery. The incidence of Rh sensitization was 9.5 per cent. Fetal erythrocytes in the maternal circulation were associated with a 20 per cent incidence of Rh isoimmunization. In contrast, only 3.7 per cent of the women with no detectable fetal cells post partum developed anti-Rh. In all cases demonstrating anti-Rh, the antibody was detectable 3 months post partum. No characteristic mode of reactivity of these immune antibodies was apparent.
