Abstract
Toxic leadership means the manager in the organization affects organizational culture and creates a toxic effect by behaving in a negative way. The purpose of this study is to reveal the direct effect of toxic leadership behaviors of top managers in Ministry of National Education (MoNE) on organizational trust of personnel and indirect effect of them on organizational commitment according to the workers’ point of views. For this purpose, 1202 participants joined the research. They were asked whether their top managers indicated toxic leadership behaviors via Toxic Leadership Scale. They also expressed their opinions about workers’ organizational commitment and their organizational trust via data collection tools. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics were used, and structural equation model (SEM) was designed to see whether it works or not. The results of the analysis revealed that the top managers who works in MoNE showed toxic leadership behaviors to a great extent and the personnel working in MoNE had organizational commitment in a moderate level and they had low level organizational trust. In addition, the results of the study indicated that there was a negative moderate relationship between toxic leadership and organizational trust, there was also a negative low-level relationship between toxic leadership and organizational commitment, as well as a positive moderate relationship between organizational commitment and organizational trust. In the SEM analysis, it was seen that organizational commitment had a 'partial mediator' effect on the relationship between toxic leadership and organizational trust. Based on the findings, it was found out that the effect of organizational trust on the toxic leadership appeared via the mediator of organizational commitment.
