Abstract

Initial feasibility and recent successes of high DK gas permeable lenses has led to the development of a range of fluoropolymer materials. Work to date suggests that high DK hard lens materials can be used for daily/extended wear, but much less work has been carried out on the optimum design for such a lens. Data will be presented on a new high DK (92) fluoropolymer lens with clinical comparisons being made between traditional spherical and more recent aspheric lens designs. The relative merits of spherical and aspheric extended wear hard lenses will be discussed with reference to recent innovations in aspheric lens technology.
