Abstract
Abstract A new type of rf-switch for use in communication applications is presented in this paper. These switches can be used for purposes such as antenna selection (transmitter / receiver) or for the filter-path selection in multi-band communication systems. The design of the switch is based on a torsion-type model with two switch contacts for a dual-mode switching operation. The mechanical operation is performed by electrostatic actuation with switching voltages in the range of 10V. The device is manufactured in a standard CMOS production line with a specialized micromachining process. Initial samples of the switch have been tested successfully.
