Abstract

Based on the common viewpoint that diagnostic criteria of depression are non uniform, the author suggests, in line with Bergeret 's theories, that the depressive symptomatology must be understood within the framework of a structure of personality. For the purpose of illustration, two apparently identical cases of depression are studied from the viewpoint of psychic functioning.
