Abstract

This chapter discusses the security issues in near field wireless communication. RFID/NFC reader, writer, and emulator are introduced. Some privacy leakage risks are evaluated. Many enterprises have adopted RFID and contactless smart cards in place of passcodes, magnetic stripe cards and paper ticket cards. Contactless smart cards contain a small piece of memory accessible by wireless communication, but different from RFID tags, contactless smart cards are also capable of computing. Most contactless smart cards are encrypted with methods similar to symmetric encryption to restrict access of corresponding programs to the memory.
