Abstract
The concept of ubiquitous computing is widespread in several fields; mobility of persons and goods currently represents an interesting field of application of these ideas. One promising technology is the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology: its application is quite well applied in logistics activities. Few applications are developed for urban mobility, where RFID technology could support an effective tracing system of both vehicles and persons in Public Transport Networks (PTNs). Tools applied for currently managing PTNs are not integrated as several different applications have been developed. The present paper proposes a research project aiming to define an Integrated Mobility Platform (IMP) based on intensive application of RFID as an enabling technology: the IMP applies RFID for tracing people and vehicles in the whole life cycle characterizing an intermodal PTN. A pilot project has been developed in order to validate the proposed IMP.
