Abstract

This paper describes a research whose aim is to quantitatively evaluate the investment of RFID technology on the EOQ inventory system with planned shortage. We consider RFID as a collaborative technology in the whole inventory and suggest four models to investigate the effects of RFID investment: (1) non-RFID technology; (2) RFID investment in the ordering efficiency; (3) RFID investment in the JIT efficiency, and (4) RFID investment in the ordering efficiency and JIT efficiency simultaneously. Then we analyze the impact of RFID by optimizing order quantities, actual total cost through considering the effect of ordering efficiency and JIT efficiency, and discuss RFID investing strategies for different supply chain practically. Moreover, our models are not only useful in RFID investment, but can be analyzed to the field of other information technology.
