Abstract

In an RFID system, a reader has to identify tags reliably. When the tags have mobility, the reader should identify quickly within a certain limited time. Existing RFID anti-collision protocols do not consider the movement of tags, so tag identification failure caused by the tag movement can not be prevented, resulting in decreased identification rate. In this paper, we present a system model for a tag monitoring system and propose a novel anti-collision protocol to enhance the identification rate when tags have mobility. The proposed anti-collision protocol can classify the tags by the number of collisions, then preferentially identify the tags experiencing many collisions. We show that the performance of RFID identification is improved using our proposed protocol via analysis and simulations.
