Abstract

Large-eddy simulations on the separated flow controlled by a vortex-generator type DBD plasma actuator (VG-PA) over a wide Reynolds number range have been conducted. This paper shows the separation control by the VG-PA with continuous and burst actuations at Reynolds numbers of 5,000 10,000 63,000 260,000 1,600,000. At Re=5,000 10,000 and 1,600,000, the separation is suppressed by inducing two-dimensional large-scale spanwise-vortices in burst actuation. On the other hand, promotion of turbulent transition near the leading-edge leads to suppress the separation at Re=63,000 and 260,000.
