Abstract
• The reason for temperature rise in shear bands was studied using SCS 0 specimen made of Ti6Al4V • Coupled SHPB experiments with high speed infrared and optical cameras were carried out • Upon shear band formation only a moderate temperature rise was detected • The high temperature rise in shear band was caused by the friction between sliding crack flanks.
