Abstract

Sintered α-Cr 2O 3 microcrystals were used as model solids in investigating the surface morphology and the vibrational properties of CO adsorbed on more disordered specimens. Starting from the established fact that the microcrystals of sintered samples expose prevalently (01 1 2) faces and, to a less extent, ( 2 116) and (11 2 0) faces, we have compared the IR spectra of CO adsorbed on high surface area and sintered α-Cr 2O 3 samples, with the aim to evidentiate the effect of increasing defects concentration on the IR spectra of the adsorbed CO.
