Abstract

The profile of the two-body collision-induced light scattering spectrum of CH4 at temperatures from 295 K to 130 K is calculated through a classical trajectory simulation of the collision. Free translational, bound state, and single and double induced rotational contributions are included. The magnitudes of the dipole-quadrupole and dipole-octopole polarizabilities are found to be 0⋅75 Å4 and 2⋅7 Å5, respectively, through comparison with experiment.
