Abstract

Septum is an effective polarizer to generate circular polarizations from the linear excitations in a waveguide. In this paper, the functionality of the septum is revisited using full-wave simulations, and a graphical visualization is presented to aid in better understanding the fundamental principals of a stepped septum circular polarizer. Septum responses to even and odd mode excitations are analyzed, and the electric field distributions inside the septum polarizer are presented. The simulated S-parameters and axial ratio validates its effectiveness.
