Abstract

AbstractBuilding on the original DIERS methodology presented 20 years ago, an easy to use design methodology for reactive vapor, gassy, and hybrid systems has resulted that properly accounts for two‐phase flow effects. The methodology is shown to be consistent with available experimental and incident information and examples of bad and good design practices are provided for vapor, gassy, and hybrid systems. The latest methods for calculating the area of reliefs for vapor, gassy, and hybrid systems are given in this article. © 2006 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Process Saf Prog, 2006
