Abstract

In our present study, the anomalous variation in temperature coefficient and permittivity of (Ba1-x Srx )(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3 (BSZN) with chemical composition was investigated with respect to the order-disorder behavior of the system. It was observed that dielectric properties such as permittivity, temperature coefficient, and quality factor revealed systematic variation not only with composition but also with sintering temperature. The origin of the latter variation was ascribed to the change in bond character accompanied by the order-disorder behavior. With the aid of X-ray diffraction accompanied by a critical review of previous research, it is suggested that a short-range modulation of crystal structure rather than a change in long-range crystal structure is the origin of the temperature coefficient and permittivity anomalies apparent in the BSZN system.
