Abstract

The species of the Ethiopian Erichsonius robustus species group — E. maximus, E. rotundodentatus, E. pseudomaximus, E. helgae, E. superbus, E. musidentatus, E. scabrosus, E. capribarbatus, E. sinusidentatus, E. pubidentatus and E. robustus — are for the first time proved to be a monophyletic group. Four species are redescribed and illustrated — E. robustus (BERNHAUER, 1915), E. maximus TOTTENHAM, 1956, E. scabrosus TOTTENHAM, 1956 and E. superbus TOTTENHAM, 1962. Each of the other seven species is newly described and illustrated — E. pubidentatus and E. sinusidentatus from Zaire, Ht. Kiymbi, 1700 and 1800 m; E. rotundodentutus from Tanzania, Mt. Mbize; E. musidentatus and E. capribarbatus from Malawi, Chamambo Forest; E. pseudomaximus from Zaire, Biena forest reserve, 1800 m and E. helgae from Zaire, Uvira, 800 m. All bionomic and distributional data available are presented. The species of this group live in the mountains along the East African Rift Valley. In addition this paper is concerned with distinguishing this group from similar groups or single species. Three keys are composed, for males, females and the whole group respectively.
