Many of those attending the XIX International Geological Congress in 1952 had the good fortune to meet, for the first time, the spirited geological team of Termier and Termier, as they were then at the University in Algiers. For me there was also the unforgettable experience of finding myself seated next to Henri Termier at an improvised banquet table in Tamanrasset and listening to him tell of their work and their working schedule. At that time, the first volume (L'histoire géologique de la biosphére) of their four‐volume treatise of geology had just been published and was on exhibit at the Congress. This, the second volume, appeared in 1956.
