Abstract

Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are challenging to treat despite various existing methods. Stress on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) leads to an accumulation of reactive oxygen species, promoting inflammation and cartilage degra-dation. Resveratrol, a natural polyphenol, inhibits inflammatory pathways and suppresses chondrocyte apoptosis, making it a promising candidate for TMD treatment. This review analyzes six studies with 3 kinds of animals on the intra-articular application of resveratrol for treating arthritis. This paper aims to elucidate the potential of resveratrol administrations into the articular cartilage to improve severity of arthritis, providing a foundation for future research and clinical investigations.
