Abstract

In his introduction (page 30) Professor Whyte says: The only hope for management in solving its personnel problems lies in the growth of understanding of the restaurant organization as an evolving system of human relations. This book is designed to present a framework for thinking effectively in those terms. Actually Professor Whyte goes farther than the presentation of such a framework. Section IV of the book, Human Elements in Supervision, consists of 10 chapters in each of which more or less specific rules of behavior are laid out by means of which supervisors can deal with various types of problems in human relations. Many examples of both poor and able supervisory behavior are set forth in this section and other sections of the book.
