Abstract

Matters of national unity and of handling relations between the whole and the component parts of a nation are generally seen as political issues apparently unrelated to rule of law. Indeed, these matters are highly political in nature and are very frequently determined by the decision-makers’ political acumen and farsightedness. However, the role of rule of law in resolving matters of national unity should by no means be underestimated. Rule of law alone is insufficient to solve such problems, but these problems cannot be resolved by politics without rule of law, and even though temporarily solved, they are not resolved for any length of time. Where rule of law is well exercised, it plays an immense role in upholding national unity and stability and in dealing with the relations between the whole and the component parts of a nation. In a certain sense, all resolutions of a political nature are final and thorough and hold good for all time only if they are put into full effect by means of laws.
