Abstract

During the past five years Gérard Klein has had the responsible and fortunate task of selecting and editing the 13 books that have so far appeared in the present series of Les Visages de l'Avenir. This considerable enterprise by the publishing firm of Seghers, Paris, marks a major stage in the collective advance towards the future. It is the most recent stage in a progression that goes back to the 86 monographs in the Today and Tomorrow series which Kegan Paul began to publish in 1924. Some of them proved most influential. For instance, Liddell Hart on The Future of War gave the German General Staff and General de Gaulle some of their ideas for tank warfare. We can expect comparable results from this new series, since the informed experience and the extensive knowledge of the contributors will undoubtedly provoke sustained discussion about the measures that should be taken to ensure a safe passage into the future.
