Abstract

The review process of our publications affects almost all SEG members. As authors, some have received manuscript reviews containing a recommendation for rejection or substantial revision—sometimes after many months of delay. As readers, we have struggled through syntaxically challenged manuscripts in search of new and innovative technology. The review process seeks to solve the latter problem for the reader at the risk of creating problems for the author. In essence, the process is a filter placed on manuscripts submitted for publication. It seeks to optimize timely technology transfer and readability while maintaining technical correctness. Since most SEG members have been readers and/or authors of SEG publications, it is worth revisiting.
