Abstract

Quintillas appear in thirteen of the thirty-eight extant plays of Antonio Enríquez Gómez that are authentic or probably so. Of these quintillas, 98.4% are Type 1 (ababa). Calderón's quintillas are far more varied: 56.1% are Type 1, 36.0% are Type 5 (aabba), 6.7% are Type 3 (abaab), and the rest are mainly Type 2 (abbab). The percentages for both parts of La hija del aire are remarkably close to those for Calderón's comedias and quite unlike Enríquez's. This new evidence, combined with the stylistic differences noted in my previous study should finally eliminate any remaining doubts about Calderón's authorship of Hija the play.
