Abstract

There are few professional activities more interesting rhan getting a group of colleagues together and holding a discussion and debate on topics of common interest. Such an event took place in May 1981 when several mathematics educators gathered at Indiana University to discuss issues and directions in research on mathematical problem solving. The conference was apparently so stimulating that the participants felt a book was needed so others could share the fun. I am sorry I missed the conference, because the book is much like my home movies—more entertaining for the producer rhan for anyone who was not present at rhe event.
