Abstract

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized the Fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR 5) on Dec. 27, 2021. UCMR is a recurring national water quality monitoring program required by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). Under this program, EPA is required to identify up to 30 unregulated contaminants for inclusion in the monitoring program to inform regulatory decisions for drinking water standards. EPA is currently preparing for UCMR 5 monitoring activities, which will begin Jan. 1, 2023, and finish Dec. 31, 2025.
