Ongaro is Associate Professor of Music History and Literature at the University of Southern California. His main research interest is music in Venice in the Renaissance and early Baroque. He has contributed several articles to the second edition of The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (2001) and has published widely on the subject of Venetian music. He is currently working on a book about music in Renaissance Venice.
