Abstract

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits postsecondary institutions that receive federal assistance from discriminating on the basis of disability in their programs or activities. In 2022, the 45th anniversary of the promulgation of Section 504, the U.S. Department of Education stated plans to update the corresponding federal regulations. To this end, ED's Office for Civil Rights solicited feedback and comments about possible changes to the decades‐old law (https://www2.ed.gov/policy/rights/reg/ocr/index.html). Likewise, ED expressed an intention to hold listening sessions to elicit further topics for amendment.
