Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Lower limb amputation caused by diabetes has increased 6 times, from 113 each year in the early 1970s to 700 each year in 2007 in Singapore. Some studies on lower-limb-amputation rehabilitation were conducted at acute hospitals in Singapore. However, there are no similar studies on lower limb amputation rehabilitation in a local community setting. The role of the community hospital in Singapore is to provide convalescent and rehabilitative inpatient care to patients in the sub-acute phase of their recovery prior to returning home or reintegrating back into the community.
