Abstract

The Internet of Things IoT technology becomes a solution to a variety of daily life smart facilities such as smart cities, smart healthcare systems, transportation, and the smart environment. However, the huge amounts of data that are often created and exchanged between IoT devices and platforms through direct data exchange face performance, expansion, connection reliability, and security challenges. Hence, the use of the message broker was considered a simple, available and safe solution to all the mentioned problems. Yet it has one common role, the broker may be used for different purposes. This paper aims to achieve several objectives: i) reviewing studies that implement brokers for performance issues in applications that need real-time processing, such as health care. ii) Assessing the benefits and challenges of using the broker in smart city and healthcare applications. iii) Discovering service broker policy implementations in fog computing.
