Abstract
Shape memory alloys (SMAs) have very broad applications in aerospace, medical, automotive, robotics, optometry etc. SMAs are the embryonic advanced materials because of their versatile properties like pseudoelasticity, Shape Memory Effect(SME), superelasticity, high corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, high specific strength, high anti-fatigue property. SMAs are very difficult to machine by conventional processes because of their intricate and complex structures. Non-conventional machining like Water jet machining, laser machining and electrochemical machining (ECM) are used to machine these materials, but due to their mechanical properties and complexity, these processes are limited in use. Electro discharge machining, as well as wire electro discharge machining (WEDM) display high competence to machine SMAs of intricate shapes precisely. In this study, the review of the literature has been carried out to focus the problems associated with the shape memory alloy and to get future scope of the study
