Abstract

AbstractLocalized heating or cooling a surface by impingement of air jets is widely used in many industries. The thin boundary layer formation and the increased turbulence levels are some of the unique features of jet impingement that makes it suitable for the applications in electronics, manufacturing, aerospace and so on. Amongst the solar heat collectors, solar air heaters hold a significant position, especially for low and medium temperature applications. The major reason for lower value of heat transfer coefficient is the existence of laminar sublayer, which has to be ruptured for achieving maximum heat transfer. Several researchers have studied the enhancement in thermal performance of solar air heater by implementing jet impingement. In order to find more research opportunities, it is therefore mandatory to understand the past and current researches related to solar air heater accompanying jet impingement. In the present chapter, authors made an attempt to examine the latest trends in the thermal performance of the solar air heaters by jet impingement.
