Abstract

Steel is a very important material for the development of any country. Very often, per capita consumption of steel is considered to be the index of development of any country because anything related to the development uses steel. Construction of infrastructure consumes about 50% of steel through fabrication. Welding is an important process of fabrication. However, poor weldability of high strength steel is a constraint to use it in various applications. The weldability of steel is related to its hardness and other properties of steel. The paper discusses various factors of difficulty in welding of high strength steel. It also discusses the different codes and standards related to the welding of steel. It is observed that Indian codes are not revised for a long time and it has been losing its relevance. American codes are more relevant for welding of high strength steel.
