Introduction

Ashe (2001) recorded 62 valid species of Gyrophaena from America north of Mexico. The genus is very poorly known in Canada and the only key to identification of species was provided by Seevers (1951) in his North American revision published over half a century ago. Gyrophaena (Gyrophaena) illiana Seevers, 1951: 688 (CANADA: New Brunswick; UNITED STATES: Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin). Gyrophaena (Gyrophaena) lobata Casey, 1906: 294 (CANADA: New Brunswick; UNITED STATES: District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, New York, and Wisconsin).
