Abstract

New distribution records are given for the Northern Plains species Paria thoracica (Melsheimer), P. opacicollis LeConte, P. quadrinotata (Say), P. sexnotata (Say), P. quadriguttata LeConte, P. scutellaris (Notman), and the strawberry rootworm, P. fragariae Wilcox, in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota, with some remarks on their morphological variation. New distribution records also are included for P. frosti Wilcox, P. virginiae Wilcox, P. aterrima (Olivier), P. blatchleyi Wilcox, P. sexnottata (Say), and P. opacicollis LeConte. P. fragariae kirki is described as a new subspecies which occurs chiefly in southeastern United States and has been recorded on Rosa sp. P. pratensis , the host of which is Rosa setigera Michaux, is described as a new species, primarily occurring in the Northern Plains States, and P. wilcoxi is described as a new species from Alabama, its host being Taxodium distichum (L.). These newforms are incorporated into a key to species.
